January 2025: 59th HRC submission from ICCR / IAHR on The Use of AI and the UNGPs

In January 2025, the Investor Alliance responded to the call for inputs by the OHCHR Working Group on Business and Human Rights seeking insights on good practices and lessons learned on the implementation of the Guiding Principles, and to assess and make recommendations related to the procurement and deployment of AI has become a crucial issue.

The submission focuses on the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) and the Investor Alliance for Human Rights' ongoing work with investors on tech and human rights risks in their investment holdings and decision making across the following issue areas: healthcare, workers' justice, and climate change.

Inputs submitted by all stakeholders will inform the forthcoming report of the Working Group to be presented to the 59th session of the Human Rights Council in June 2025 and will contain recommendations related to the responsibility of states and businesses outside the technology sector that is, businesses which do not develop AI, to protect and respect human rights, as well as the roles of other relevant stakeholders, including civil society, human rights defenders, academia, and trade unions, in the context of the evolving landscape of AI procurement and deployment.

You can review the full submission on the UN website here.
