October 2021: Statement from businesses and investors call on UK government to pass due diligence law

The Investor Alliance was among 36 companies, investors, and business associations that called on the UK government to pass a human rights and environmental due diligence law. The Statement calls for ambitious legislation that is accompanied by consequences "strong enough to ensure that businesses that fall within the scope of the legislation carry out HREDD to a high standard and that victims have access to justice."

According to research from the Business & Human Rights Resource Center, UK companies have been linked to a wide range of human rights and environmental abuses worldwide. A HREDD law, with provisions to hold companies and investors legally liable, could help address these abuses.
