March 2022: Submission to UN OHCHR Consultation on the Application of the UNGPs to Technology Companies
In March 2022, the Investor Alliance for Human Rights responded to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' (OHCHR) call for inputs on the application of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) to technology companies.
OHCHR invited relevant stakeholders to provide input related to the four themes of the expert consultation to discuss the practical application of the UNGPs to the activities of technology companies, held on March 7-8, 2022. The Investor Alliance submission responds to the first two themes of the consultation: addressing human rights risks in business models; and human rights due diligence and end-use.
The submission discusses investors’ embracing the application of the UNGPs in their engagements with technology companies, in furtherance of their own responsibility to respect human rights. We also highlight investor support for digital rights regulations and mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence legislation to support their investment-making decisions in technology companies.
